This was a great disappointment. These so-called "highlights" were cinema trailers of abysmal quality, over-dubbed with a droning narrator and the entire product looked like a powerpoint presentation. Admittedly, the price of the box set should give an idea of what to expect. The packaging looks homemade and my disc 2 skips so often that it is un-watchable. As a rapid oversight of the Hollywood musical for general knowledge, this dvd may be useful but any fans of the genre must avoid at all costs.

Quite why the previous reviewer gave this set 1 star I really don't know,unless they thought it was a complete musicals set,which it is not.
Basically this a history of the Hollywood Musical(with commentary).It consists entirely of clips of Hollywood Musicals,ranging from 3 minutes up to in some cases 8 or 10 minutes.
It also has clips from some musicals that I have never seen before,or even knew existed!
If you like/love Hollywood Musicals and want to see how they came about,and developed,this is the set for you.
The quality is good,and maybe better than could be expected given the age of some of the clips.
If you are a Hollywood Musicals buff then this set will only add to your enjoyment of the full length films.
